Maybe someone who used the same background for everything will tell you how much they bought.

I bought a 15 yd bolt from Hancocks of Paducah (cheaper if you buy more than 10 yards). I used it for everything - block backgrounds, sashings, plain tris, and scallops and I had about half a yard left at the end.
