I've never had a problem with the Shout color catcher, but if I'm washing fabric that has been dyed, or reds in particular, I wash them alone but I still use the color catcher, often I'll throw in 2 for good measure. And sometimes I'll throw in the color catcher (which catches any bleeding) and white vinegar (which will permanently set the color).
