I seriously doubt the maker of these does it only with non-working machines. He probably performs this mutilation on any antique head he can get his hands on no matter if it works or doesn't work. He most likely doesn't even bother to find out if it works. To each his own though. I think it is a travesty but others may find them charming and cute. I guess better this then in a landfill.
