UPDATE TO THE QUILT!
I noticed an error on the applique and when I started to repair it... well, you know how it goes. I ended up ripping the applique completely off.
So, I started over, this time with the heat & seal - recommended by a gal at Joann's - and it worked great!
I also switched to cotton instead of trying a flannel for the applique. I'm pleased with it!
