Martha is my Bernina 1530 given to me by a friend. It belong to her late mother and my friend does not sew. Last fall when I told her I was looking for a machine that could do free motion quilting, she offered Martha to me. I had never sewn on a Bernina before and I knew it was a good machine. I told her I wouldn't take it unless I could lower the feed dogs on it. When I found out I could use it for machine quilting, I looked it up on ebay to see if I could get a sense of the value of it. I told my friend that I saw one being bid on and someone was going to pay over $700.00 for it. I wanted to make sure she did not want to sell it and she said no, she did not want to mess with selling it and it was mine. I took her home and finally had a chance to take her for servicing in March of this year. The circuit board had to be replaced and it took a little while to get her back but she sews great. I even made a quilted potholder last weekend on her. I named her Martha after her former caretaker because when I got her, her address stickers were all over the machine and the foot pedal because she used to take it to quilting classes. I hope Martha and I have many years of sewing and quilting in our future.
