The pattern dictates the light/medium/dark values for the quilt.
I buy according to my stash. If I know that I am low on light values, and I find a fabric that I like I buy 2 yards. Same with a dark, although I tend to like dark values and have lots of mediums.
Sometimes I buy because...just becuse:)
