I would hate to see the block get all wonky. Do you have scraps you can wash to test out? If there is no problem with excess dye, then the quilt can be washed when all done and stabilized with the quilting. Just asking, I too jump in with both feet too soon some times.

Already did it....didn't think about the "wonky" part, eesh...lesson learned. Haven't tried to iron them or put them back together yet. I do wash by hand, then roll up in a towel for excess water removal, lay flat on another towel to dry. So maybe I'll get lucky.
