There are 2 ways you can make the Jacob's coat pattern. You can piece it or you can applique it. I googled "jacob's coat kelly jackson" and found pdf instructions. I've also seen a very good quilt-along here:

I've seen tutorials and free templates around the web, they're not hard to find. Inklingo has a joseph's coat pattern, also.
