My first 20 quilts had all phoney borders...I'd sew on a phoney strip around the whole quilt usually 2-3 inches...Put down my batting first thenback with right side facing up and then front right side facing down(right sides together)...Stitched all around but left an opening so I could turn inside out...Then I'd quilt and do stitch in ditch around the phoney border.
I watched some Utubes and jumped in finally asked a cousin to show me the hand stitching for the back and now I love it...It's actually my favor part. Now if I could just conquer Free Motion.
