I think for most of us there is one part of the process that does not go as smoothly as others. Funny thing it's not the same part in every quilt! At least that's how it works with me
On my smaller quilts for binding I cut a 1 1/2" strip and press the left edge of the fabric under 1/4". I sew the other unfolded edge to the quilt. When I fold the binding to the back, my edge is pressed and ready for blind stitching :).
I feel the single fold binding reduces bulk on small quilts especially on the really small quilts I make. Saves a little on fabric too. Hand stitching is a favorite part of the process for me. Since I don't HQ anymore it allows me to enjoy the flow of needle through fabric. Hope I can continue to stitch binding down by hand for a long while.
