Yes the square on point was a very dark purple and black print. I too like black in a quilt it can really make the other colors pop.
I asked the then mother to be what colors she wanted and she said yellow and purple and I took it from there. I must admint I probably wouldn't have opted for that color scheme on my own but was pleased with how it came out. I am pretty sure yellow and purple are complimentary on the color wheel.
