I've done a few crumbs inspired by threads like these. Most of my crumbs truly are crumbs ... teeny tiny itsy bitsy pieces put together.
Wouldn't it be wise to add some sort of straight-grain strip (like a sashing) around the crumb block once it's cut down? I would think they would stretch too much otherwise.

Just asking because I'm about ready to lighten my crumbs pile.
I’ve seen them done both ways and both are beautiful. The reason I will add sashing to mine is because they will be a QAYG. Another option is to sew them to a foundation if you are more comfortable this way.
