We have the highest co pay on our vehicle insurance they offer so I don't leave anything in the car that I can't replace easy. When traveling I take everything out of the car every night and repack it every morning when at motels.
We traveled from Oregon to San Antonio, TX for a convention several years back, and although it was time consuming, we completely unloaded our car every night at the motels. We actually got pretty well organized on the procedure by the time three weeks was up.
