Ok, if you're going for size, then I would make the side X's out of HST-blocks.
The whole image is essentially on a 4x4 grid, so if you want it to be 60" square, then each corner block, for instance, would be 15" finished. And the 15" is still a workable size.
How big do you want it? 60"? 68"? 76?" I'll give you the piece sizes.
