I'm getting the finished block at 6 3/8. After cutting and sewing the non-diagonal sides together, the diagonal is 6 7/8 as the outer edge as someone else correctly calculated. Then take off 1/2 inch for the seam on both ends of it. That leaves 6 3/8 which does turn out to be between the 6 and 6 1/2 that she states.
