I think I've finally figured out why I have trouble with my finished squares being skimpy when I try to use the +7/8 inch to the finished size squares and sewing diagonally.

When I cut each triangle individually, there is a tiny bit added to each edge of the piece - that's as close as the rotary cutter gets - but it's still a couple of threads more -

That "extra" isn't there when I try to do it with the +7/8 inch square method.

So if I use +1 inch and trim 1/16 inch around the edges of the square, I feel I'm way ahead of the game.

Was this clear as mud?
