My grandson was over 9 pounds when he was born and his mom devoted her time to feeding him and getting him to grow for the next 6 months. The babies with heart defects do better when the heart is bigger (like at least walnut size!) so the doctors can see what they are doing. He had his surgery to fix the defects when he was 6 months old and has thrived since then! I taught disabled kids back in the early '60s and had 2 students with the same deformity of the heart. Doctors couldn't do much then so the kids were frail, blue and didn't live past high school. We are blessed to live in the times we do!
