Because my quilting and piecing can be a little on the...um... CASUAL side sometimes.....I wash before giving just in case I need to mend something after the first wash. At least that was the first wash is done before the recipient sees the quilt, and I can use a little surreptitious permanent glue or a few stitches to correct the OOPS!
