How about seeing a battle and reenacting that era in September?
Rockford, IL has a great reenactment for WWII, including ladies dressed in that era. You see their camps like they would be in wartime. They have included some Pacific reenacting also. There are tanks and lots of heavy equipment, oh and guns. German, Russian, Italian, US, participate etc.
