Fabric is usually purchased "by the yard", 36 inches, or a fraction of a yard. Fabric is traditionally manufactured in 44" widths; however, recently some manufacturers have shortened that to 42". These measurements explain what the length of the fabric cut is when you buy a fraction of a yard.
1/8yd = .125 = 4.5"
1/4yd = .25 = 9"
3/8yd = .375 = 13.5"
1/3yd = .333 = 13.5"
1/2yd = .5 = 18"
5/8yd = .625 = 22.5"
2/3yd = .666 = 24"
3/4yd = .75 = 27"
7/8yd = .875 = 31.5
1yd = 1 = 36"

A meter is approximately 39". This chart is for people ordering fabric from or in US stores where the yard is the usual measurement.
Sorry, I meant 1yd = 36''. Still confused though.
1yd = 1 = 36" So, what does the 1 stand for? 1yd = 1 what?(it can't be 1meter) = 36" All the others have been converted into cms. this one hasn't.
The way it should read is 1yd = 91.4 = 36"
1m = 100 =±39"
