I would think that all cotton batting would be alright if the iron setting isn't too hot. (hot shrinks cotton) I have ironed a quilt with polyester batt (on a low setting) to get it ready for machine quilting. I find it helps get the sandwich flatter for putting the pins in. Too hot of an iron would probable fry the polyester and it will lose it's loft.
