There was an outbreak of pertussis in a nearby city a couple years ago when my babies were babies... It's always tough to see babies suffer from something so easily avoided!
Unfortunately though most adults are not up to date with vaccinations and insurance companies don't help. When I got my dtap booster a couple years ago it was only because I had gone to a family practicioner instead of my normal ob/gyn for my yearly check-up. I never would have considered it - and ob-gyn don't deal with it - the insurance company denied it because it's not part of a routine adult female exam.
