my daughter has a cat, ruth, who's around 12. she recently took in stinky, 16, out of pity. the family couldn't keep him because their new baby has allergies. stinky is the devil in disguise. he has made ruth's calm quiet life a living hell.dd had to buy a baby gate and lock up ruth in a 'safe' room where stinky could see her but not get in. dd won't take stinky to the shelter. that would be cruel. but ruth is afraid of anyplace but her own room now. and at age 16 no one is going to want to adopt stinky. dd works all day, so she's not around to work this out, but she trying to get them to at least stay in a room together without stinky hitting poor ruth. stinky needs a little playful kitty with energy, not calm, sleepy ruth. your baby needs the same thing. sorry.
