I use bees wax or parrifin wax. I have a block of parrifin wax on my tray for hand quilting, a piece by the sewing machine for hand sewing. I use it all the time. Either one is great. I have also used old white candles when in a pinch. By using these waxes, the thread does not tangle as bad either.
