I have cruised many times with Holland America, and they are wonderful! Although the time of year you choose certainly can determine the number of children and young people on a cruise (I always book for May or September), HA definitely caters to an older crowd. By all means, get a room with a balcony if you can afford it; it is well worth the view. The shore excursions can be pricey, but if it is a special occasion, then go for it! You may never return. I highly recommend the Alaska cruises and the smaller Rhine and Mosel River cruises in Europe. I took a Norwegian Cruise out of Boston up into Canada and New England, and the service and food were pathetic. I'll never take that line again. Whatever you choose, ENJOY!
