I saw an idea on line where a lady took a thick sheet of insulation making it the height of her sewing machine deck, covered it with something smooth and then cut out the shape of her machine out of that. Cutting into an oak desk just somehow seems sacrilegious to me. You can't hardly find such a thing anymore!
