I saw one S&W, made out of a fabric with large airplanes, with lots of space between that ii was skeptical about. While it wasnt the same look as you get with a tighter pattern, it turned out quite nice. I gueess it depends on your desired outcome. Prev post has best idea, use the mirrors to audition the blocks. Btw the pattern used 8 repeats, and more than 2 yards, so keep that in mind when choosing your pattern.
