You might like the "modern" quilting movement, there are a lot of relaxed, no-rules, asymmetrical, good-for-beginning-quilter blogs out there, with some great, easy tutorials. I know you don't have easy access to a computer, but some of the tutorials can be printed out. Check books out from your library, go to quilt shows, you may become inspired and create your own style! A great resource could be the modern quilt guild - it's sort of a grass-roots nationwide guild with branches in various locations. Check this website to see if there's one near you, and if there is, GO! You will likely find lots of kindred spirits there! :)
