I believe the SE350 is being replaced by the SE400, which will have a USB so you wouldn't need a card reader. It appears the price will be pretty much the same, so if I were you, I would be looking at the 400.

For the most part most Brother machines get very good reviews and are very user friendly. I don't think you can go wrong with a brother.

And if you can afford a little more expensive machine, you might consider the Brother PE770, which has a 5x7 hoop. If you're like I was when I first got an embroidery machine, I outgrew the 4x4 hoop almost immediately and wanted to do larger designs. I now have the capacity to do 7 x 11 designs, but find that the 5x7 is my favorite size.
