i use a regular mechanical pencil- i have different colored leads for it- but 99% of the time i've found regular lead shows up just fine- even on black. when i want my lines to be heavier than i can achieve with the mechanical pencil i just grab a normal pencil and sharpen it- that gives me a wider line.
