Yes you can. I saw one of the preprinted wash out ink wallhanging which had been dyed. If you should do one of the preprinted ones, be sure and wash out the lines before dying as the dye takes differently over the lines. If you do your own, be sure and get all the marks out before dying. Quilt in cogton thread. polycotton will not dye the same and the suggestion to use the made for dying fabric is a good one although I suspect a good quality white muslin wuld work as well. Also I suggest using white as the background and not the off white or nagtural muslin.
