I recently did the same thing with my father-in-laws shirts for each one of his children and grand children. I had to spread the fabric kind of thin because of using for so many people so I asked each person what their favorite color was and mixed that with other shirt squares and made a 9 patch for each person. So far I have made 8 lap quilt size for each kid and grand kid. They were all so surprised and really treasure the memory of their father and grandfather.
