Yes and no ... It'd be a fun thing for them, though I'm not sure if it'd be a good beginners project with the "hard" fabric, it might not be as easy for them to work with? Just a thought!
Idea ... because of the type of "fabric" ... how about some large aprons mad?? would be perfect for those who splash as they wash!
