Well, when I was young and my DMIL taught me TRADITIONAL quilting by hand and with what we had on hand because she was a farmer and I mean she farmed for HER living and to support three growing boys. We hemmed the quilt with the backing, which is quite traditional because the was never anything extra to run down to the LQS and spend on binding.
