Yes. For 30 years I've been sewing over my pins - I just go very slowly and if it looks like I'm going to have a needle/pin collison I pull the pin out. When I started quilting I learned that it was forbidden so I guess I'll go to Quilt Prison if I'm apprehended. Have almost never broken a needle.
