have such a hard time getting a quilt done, that it felt like it was jinxed?? Ok this is me venting so hold on to your hats. First off I put some of my have to's and my want to's into a hat and my husband drew out my next project. It was my oldest grandsons quilt, COOL he's been asking, so I had him pull another one out of the hat because I always have to have 2 things going on at once. It was a 10 min block I said wow great I was going to do some of them in the grandsons quilt. I got a 2 for one soooooooo I again had him pull one out of the hat and it was finish pin wheel quilt. Ok If I have to i said to myself. Well I sat down, no patteren but knowing I was going to do some 10 min blocks in his quilt got to cutting and working. I got almost 1/2 done with his quilt happy I was going so great, Then It happened. My husband came home and said hey Cin I grandson #2 asked his mom when is grandma gonna make his quilt and his mom replied for your birthday. It was 3 weeks away. OH MY GOODNESS. HUrry to find material on line, get it here figure out what I wanted to do with it, start putting it together and I found faults in the material I couldn't over look. I had to do a lot of ripping and tearing, then My husband didn't like the material I picked for backing, so I had to dig threw all my stash and find something he approved of grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Now I'm what I thought was 3 days away from his birthday and realized Well i gotta back up cuz inbetween all of this I'm dealing with babysitting the 5 grand kids 2 of which are twin one year olds and my 2 foster kids. So now i can go on. Oh no hold on the oldest foster kid has a puppie. Now I can go on. get back to working on it and the phone rings, we are having cake at 11:30 tomorrow for #2s birthday, I looked at the calander and OH MY goodness it's not the 21 it's the 23 (time fly's when your having fun? and yes btw I did miss the fun) So my husband and I deside it's gonna be tied so I get the top put together, I "sandwich It" he helps guide it as I sew, I get ready to turn it inside out and I've sewed it with the inner layer on the front of the top. GEEEEEEEZe I know better. We each grab a side and start ripping, did i mention it's midnight We have to help with some cabins by 9 am. We get it ripped out and put back together right and I'm sewing the first side and my quilting/layering foot I use falls apart, and my needle is all gummed up from the cut outs I made and appliqed on the top. I hunt for the pieced to but the reg foot back on it takes my 20 mins cuz I'm now ready to set the thing on fire. by the time we got 3 sides done and were sure I hading messed it up again, not because i'm rushing and tired and stressed. it's now 3 am. My husband say's well can we have it done by the time he goes to bed tonight (still his birthday) I chirp well of course (big mistake) My son calls that he's comming from 3 hours away to spend the week end and will be there tomorrow and my husband has a appointment for his pace maker an hour away and the kids need to do school shoping. I'm gonna need a lot of coffee tomorrow. So we went to the party, grandpa took just him fishing (mom said no toys that he's been breaking his toys and has to learn to take care of his things. What a mean thing to do to a grandparent. ) I finally get back into my sewing chair and it's OHHHHHHHHHHH shooooooooooot we got two meeting starting right now (for foster kids) luckyit's only 2 mns away, After 2 hours I get back in my sewing chair. sewup the bottom, It looks great. I'm sewing around the sides on top and my needle breaks for no reason. I get that changed and get it finished, run out of my last bobbin of white thread, gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I machine tack some of the spots and am going to tie inbetween, got 1/2 way done and my daughter calls say's she's exhausted (hmmmm) and he's not going to sleep without his birthday quilt. So I let it go over needing it back tomorrow to take a pic and finish the tieing. He won't give it up. I went over early today (2 days later) and he's the only one of the 5 kids sitting there wrapped up in his quilt. (makes grandma smile) daughter say's I like that backing you put on better than the one you had. I said good. So I don't have the quilt but it is being loved and I don't have a pic. (yet) sure hope it looks bout as good when I gave it to him so I can snap a pic to sew you all. to me this is what happens to us quilters when we are doing a have to instead of a sure I want to quilt. Been a horribly long week. But his loving it makes it all worth while (well mostly worth while, it still feels like a have to,I was going to have his done for Xmas not august. And I know sooner get done with the geeeeeeze hon I hate having to rush a project, he say's well I'd like to take a lap quilt to mom when I go visit mid september. OMgoodness No I Have to do a not wanna do quilt for my mother in law, not fair, but I do have 4 of the blocks done because I hade some pre cut stars I bought and they are sewing up quickly since i don't have to do all the presistion cuts. I WILL take a pick before it goes out the door.
Sorry I wrote a book, but boy oh boy what a week.
