i picked out several money pits for my husband to buy me but he didn't take me up on any of them. lol. they were all great deals at the time. the first one was built in 1750 and had 18 inch thick rock walls in parts of it with big chestnut beams. it came with 20 acres of land with a stream running through it. the area had lots of history behind it. it went for around 20,000 at the time but needed alot of fixing up. it got fixed up over the years and last time sold for over 300,000. the next one i picked out was near us and contained around 17 acres of land with it. it included a mill with it and the elderly couple who had owned it died. it went for 39,000 at the time and it got fixed up and modernized and was last sold to his brother for 300,000. another i picked out was a two story that was very stately and charming. it had 10 acres with it and it was sold by my neighbor who gave us our beloved dog. he sold it for 100,000. the next couple had financial problems and it was sold for 50,000 to a doctor and that was when i tried to get him to buy it as a realtor friend told me it was a great bargain if you wanted an older home. then the last one was a beauty and it was last year. it was a huge mansion with what looked like turret rooms and all. it had a little over 9 acres and it was described as being the house like in the notebook novel. it had a long driveway and it had charm plus. some remodelling had been done on it but they had not finished. it ended up and sold for 89,000 but they were asking for much more. it was alot of snow on the ground all during the time it was trying to be sold so i don't think many people went and looked at it. it had stately grace. after that one, i think i give up. he likes our ranch style house and it is easy to heat and fairly easy to take care of and is where he grew up. we did alot of the work on it when we built it so he is attached to it greatly. i grew up on farms and i love old houses although my mother did build a new brick home after they gave up farming. i still love the old 2 story houses. oh by the way, the 1750 house was a 3 story house. i had 2 chances on that. the second time it sold for 89,000 but i couldn't get him to bite on it. i really liked each of those houses.
