At noon, my time on Tuesday, my youngest called from NYC to tell me about the earthquake that had shaken her office building in NYC. We were thankful that no much but moving the computer had effected her. Then we got to watching Irene. On Tuesday the weather service was predicting that Irene might be as high as a Cat 3 hurricane and the path looked as if it was going to be directly over NYC. They got that part right. After sliding across the east coast, Irene came ashore again. This time directly over NYC at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Luckily by then she had dropped down to tropical storm strength, with just 65 mph winds. Daughter had some water damage in her home office, but not much else. No work tomorrow. The door to her apartment building is just a few steps from the last stop on the A Train in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Her office is a couple of blocks north of Union Square. It is a wee bit far to walk, so no going to work until the trains are running again.
