Unfortunately, it is the chemicals used in the manufacture of the mat - you are smelling those "aromatics+ " and must be one of those "super smeller people" - like me.
Being a member of a family of chemists, I know that errors in mixing can occur. So write the company, get a refund,
and go in search of another brand.

Hanging the mat outdoors in fresh air, in a sheltered place like a porch, using a skirt clip hanger will help a lot, but be prepared to leave it out there a long time - like weeks!
