The Container Store in St. L has a wonderful product that takes the smell out of everything I've thrown at it. It's a bag of lava rocks that you never need to replace, so if it doesn't work you can use elsewhere for ever! It's listed on thier web site under odor freshners. They are $10 a bag. Put your mat and a bag of this in a plastic bag and it should absorb the smell. Good luck.
