I've just emailed the company that supplied the machine and asked to order some bobbins made for it. It's not easy to know as it's a machine the shop had made as an 'anniversary' model - it doesn't have a brand name.

Thanks again all for the support and advice; my DH pointed out that HE suggested I change the bobbin but that I apparently pay more attention to you guys than to him! :D
