I was horrified when one of my 4H girls, who had never sewed before showed up the first night with a bright pink rotary cutter. she was showing it to everyone, waiving it around. Mom bought it for her, thought it would be easier to cut out patterns. I told her it had to be put away and now. She was not to get it out of the sewing box until I told her she could. Mom had no idea what it was and didn't even buy the cutting mat to go with it. I explained about it and mom agreed that she was not to touch it. Later I saw that it wasn't in the sewing box any longer. My girls range from 7 - 13 and I don't allow them to use rotary cutters. I like their finger right where they are. I told parents if they want to use them at home that was fine but they were not to bring them to the meetings.

I contacted the 4H extension office (an hr. away) and was told that yes there are books to use but I didn't need them. Just teach them to sew. Gee, thanks.
