I am currently working on a wallhanging from American Patchwork and Quilting called Stitcher's Studio. Here is a link to the project:

I'm not sure about the foundation pieced sewing machine. I think it is cute but for the receipient of this piece I don't think she will care for it. I would like to do an applique of a more stylized sewing machine. I think it will fit her aesthetic more. This is the image I am thinking about:

I know that I need to make it a little bit simpler (less curvy for a beginner) but I'm not sure how to go about doing that or it it is possible or even a good idea. I am thinking about doing it in a small dark calico print or a very dark purple solid. Or maybe just black.

The blocks are 6.5" (I believe). How do I figure out how much to enlarge the image? Also, please tell me anything else that I need to know.
