I do the same. As soon as the hexagone is surrounded I take it out. It is the basting thread that I'm not sure. Do you leave yours in?
My basting thread is holding the paper in so yes I snip the thread and remove the paper to be used again :)
That is what I didn't understand and now I do thanks to all of you who answered my question. You have to take it out if the basting holds the paper. I do mine with freezing paper that I iron on the back and my basting is only in the seam allowance so I can leave it. YES!!
