If I notice my fabric is fraying after I piece it I then do another stitch close to the edge to stop the fraying. I also stitch my quilt top once completed all around the edge prior to putting my batting and backing on. Once I finish FMQ'ing I go around the edge again before putting on my binding. I also find cheaper fabrics do fray more than LQS fabric.
