Why name them? Why not. My Pfaff is Jean Luc, after the bald guy on Star Trek. The Bernina is Bernie, yeah, not too cleaver there. My SUV is named the Enterprise (Star Trek) and even the Microwave Oven is call Hanford, after the atomic works near the Tri-Cities in my state (Washington)
