Yes, you CAN do this! It's a very easy pattern, not a lot of matching. The background of the star extends beyond the points, and you trim it back a bit when you square up the blocks. That makes the perfect start for the rectangles that surround it. The only places to match are the centers of the stars to the edges of the points and the intersections of the blocks themselves. Very easy and very forgiving if you do make a mistake!
