I buy steam a seam or heat n bond narrow tape. After sewing the binding on the front and before turning it to the back I put it on not quite to the edge, turn and press it down. It holds very well and you can hand sew without worrying about pins and puckers. Also can be perminate enough for wall hangings that will not get a lot of washings.
