Your dilemma is exactly what I went through 15 years ago. I opted for the long-arm (although, at the time, I got a custom stretched singer 201 on tracks...not fancy!) It was the best decision that I ever made. Ultimately, I was able to upgrade to a 30" Gammill, but that never would have happened for me without starting down the path of LAQ.
