I remember my mother washing in a wood copper in the back yard. There was a perfectly working electric one in the laundry but my father said it chewed too much power.
My brother & I loved washing day as Mum would allow us to cook toast on a long fork in the fire when she was finished. That toast always tasted better than what the toaster in the kitchen made. As kids we didn't think how much hard work washing day was for Mum.
